Ultimate Morocco Photography Tour

Morocco is a land of extraordinary colour, culture and contrast. From the blue-washed streets of Chefchaouen and the ancient medinas of Fès and Marrakech to the sweeping dunes of the Sahara, rugged Atlas Mountains and Atlantic coast, every region offers something completely different to photograph.

This 16-day adventure has been designed to explore the diversity of Morocco at a relaxed photographic pace. We’ll photograph historic cities, vibrant markets, traditional architecture, dramatic landscapes and everyday life, while allowing plenty of time to experience the culture and character of this remarkable country.

Travelling with a small group of just six adventurers gives us the flexibility to make the most of changing light, local conditions and unexpected photographic opportunities along the way. The itinerary itself is designed to remain flexible for exactly that reason.

Chefchaouen
Explore and photograph Morocco’s famous Blue City, tucked into the Rif Mountains. Its blue-washed streets, stairways and architecture make it one of the strongest street and travel photography locations on the tour. You have effectively three days based here, which is a major selling point. The Moroccan National Tourist Office itself describes Chefchaouen as a blue city built into the mountains with distinctive blue-rinsed houses. Visit Morocco

The Sahara Desert
Photograph the dunes around Merzouga at sunset and sunrise, explore by 4WD and venture deeper into the desert by camel for an overnight stay in a Berber camp. 

Marrakech
Experience one of Morocco’s great cultural centres, including Jemaa el-Fna, the souks, mosques, gardens and the constantly changing street life of the medina. 

Fès
Spend a full day exploring the walled city and medina, photographing its labyrinth of streets, markets, tanneries, craftspeople and architecture. Fès’s historic medina is also recognised by UNESCO, adding another strong hook for the web copy. Visit Morocco

Atlas Mountains & Kasbahs
Travel through the Tichka Pass, Aït Benhaddou, Ouarzazate, Skoura and the Dades region before crossing the Middle Atlas later in the journey. 

Essaouira
Photograph the Atlantic fishing town, its blue boats, medina, fortified seawalls and coastal culture. 

People & Culture
This deserves its own highlight because your photography is clearly a big part of the product. Markets, Berber communities, artisans, medinas and everyday street scenes give the tour a very different feel from the wildlife-heavy WPA trips.

DAY 1: CASABLANCA

May 16

We start our adventures in the famous city of Casablanca this afternoon, meerting at reception at 1pm. After information and a short workshop, we depart to Hassan II for a guided tour, this being one of the largest mosques in the world. Loaded with religious and historical significance, it will hold you in awe with its sheer size and incredible architecture. Dinner will be served at the hotel.

Day 2: CASABLANCA / ESSAOUIRA

May 17

After breakfast, we set out for the coastal town of Essaouira, a picturesque fishing town on the southwest coast. Many of the country’s woodcarvers and artists make Essaouira their home, filling Essaouira with incredible art and culture. The French designed city offers a bit of a European feel to Essaouira. Imagine seeing cheerful blue fishing boats packed together by the port as you explore. Dinner served in a local restaurant.

Day 3: ESSAOUIRA

May 18

After breakfast, take time to wander the cobblestoned path of the open medina of Essaouira with a ½ day guided tour. Whitewashed walls add to the fresh feeling as you find wood and unique artworks in this slower-paced Moroccan medina. The fortified seawall and the old cannons provide the perfect location to feel the strong wind on your face—Essaouira is well known for its coastal wind—perhaps inspiring you to give windsurfing a chance? Dinner will be served in a local restaurant.
