The Pantanal is a vast natural region located in the heart of South America encompassing the World’s largest tropical flooded wetland. Though the Amazon rainforest is well known worldwide due to its diversity, the Pantanal offers more numbers of visible species and individuals and is one of the most productive wildlife habitats on Earth in terms of photogenic wildlife!

DAY 1 - SAO PAULO

August 16

Your accommodation for tonight is arranged near São Paulo Airport. We will meet at 5 PM at the reception. (We recommend arriving a day or two early.) Your guides will provide further information and confirm the departure details for the following morning. There is also an option to join your guides for dinner at the hotel restaurant.

DAY 2 - SAO PAULO – ALTO RIBEIRA STATE PARK

August 17

On Day 2, we will depart from the hotel early in the morning and head via exclusive mini bus to Alto Ribeira State Park, which spans 35,000 hectares. This remarkable area is situated in the heart of a biological corridor that safeguards extensive stands of primary Atlantic rainforest, featuring numerous waterfalls and some of Brazil’s largest caves. The primary draw of this park is its rich wildlife, particularly the impressive array of raptors like the Ornate hawk-eagle, along with other rainforest inhabitants. We will also have opportunities to photograph vibrant bird species, including Magpie tanagers, Bare-throated bellbirds, tropical hummingbirds, and Channel-billed toucans. While you have already captured some great travel images, this afternoon you will be filling your cards!

DAYs 3&4 - ALTO RIBEIRA STATE PARK

August 18 & 19

Enjoy two full days exploring the captivating areas of this natural paradise. Highlights include visits to the stunning Devil’s Cave and various feeders and gardens frequented by dozens of tropical hummingbirds, such as the Brazilian Hummingbird, Black Jacobin, Planalto Hermit, Violet-capped Woodnymph, Swallow-tailed Hummingbird, and the tiny Festive Coquette. You will also encounter vibrant bird species like the Brazilian Tanager, along with several parrots and parakeets.

In the morning, we may visit the Ornate Hawk-Eagle hide and other wildlife hotspots, including a picturesque waterfall surrounded by lush rainforest. In the afternoon, we will explore a stream where you might spot the Fasciated Tiger-Heron. Additional species to look out for include the Peach-fronted Parakeet, colourful Purple-throated Euphonias, Blue-naped Chlorophonias, Crested Oropendola, and Rufous-tailed Jacamar, as well as playful troops of Coatis. Your photo guide and local expert will assist you in capturing the unique shots throughout these two days. Make sure to bring plenty of memory cards and storage space!
